Cold Noses, The Times-Union’s weekly pet column, features dogs and cats available for adoption at area government-run animal shelters.

Many shelters remain closed because of the coronavirus pandemic, but some are allowing adoptions and fosters by appointment. Call individual shelters for more information.

Shadow is a 6-year-old female Jack Russell terrier/chihuahua mix dog (ID No. 56576). She loves people and having fun. She walks wells on a leash, knows some commands, and is house-trained.

Charity is a 2-year-old female domestic medium-hair cat (ID No. 56559). She is a bundle of love and fluff who loves to talk and sit inside empty boxes.

Chi-Chi, formerly known as Brownie, is a 9-month-old female mixed-breed dog (ID No. A036692). She graduated from the Teaching Animals by Prisoners for Success program and is back at the shelter for adoption. She is a little shy and quiet but loves to run, knows basic commands, and is crate-trained. She is dog-friendly and loves meeting new people, but not small animals such as cats.

Talia is a 10-month-old female diluted tortoiseshell-colored domestic shorthair cat (ID No. A037303). She would love to be a house cat and lap cat.
